Invisalign® FAQ in Greensboro, NC
Located in Greensboro, High Point and Winston-Salem, NC, Irvin Orthodontics offers Invisalign® treatment to individuals who are looking for a virtually invisible way to improve their smile. If you have questions about Invisalign® treatment, we hope to answer them below.
What Is Invisalign®?
Invisalign® is an orthodontic appliance used to straighten teeth. You are probably familiar with traditional metal and wire braces, which use brackets affixed to the teeth to reposition them over time. Instead of the visible, intrusive methods, Invisalign® uses a series of clear aligners to re-align the teeth over time. The clear aligners are made of plastic material and are laser-cut using 3D imaging to fit your mouth exactly.
How Do I Use Invisalign®?
Aligners should be worn at all times, except during eating and dental hygiene routines. Over time, these aligners use controlled force to move the teeth into their desired positions. You will be given new aligners throughout your Invisalign® treatment process.
Will People Know I Have Invisalign®?
The plastic material used to create Invisalign® is specially formulated to be as clear and seamless as possible in your mouth. These aligners allow you to get the smile you desire without the obvious look you would have withmetal braces.
How Does Invisalign® Work?
Your series of Invisalign® aligners will be custom made based our your individual orthodontic treatment plan. The aligners are made to gently reposition your teeth gradually over time. As your treatment progresses, you will be given new Invisalign® aligners. Just change out your aligners as directed, and you’re good to go! Experience orthodontic treatment without metal brackets or wires that need tightening.
Will Invisalign® Affect My Speech?
As with all orthodontic treatments, you may experience an initial period of adjustment as you get used to this new feeling in your mouth. Some experience a minor lisp at the beginning of treatment, but it will dissipate quickly.
What Can I Eat or Drink With Invisalign®?
Invisalign® aligners should be removed when eating, so you do not have to change your eating habits or diet. When wearing your aligner throughout the day, Dr. Alan Irvin recommends only drinking water between snacks and meals. The use of a straw can help minimize any effects of drinking throughout the day, such as staining. Hot beverages should not be consumed when wearing the aligners.
How Do I Clean the Invisalign® Retainers?
Cleaning Invisalign® aligners is fast and easy. Simply clean them daily with a toothbrush and water. Be sure your teeth are clean before putting them back in your mouth. Specialty antibacterial cleansers are available if necessary.
